🕵️‍♂️ TikTok’s parent company is secretly using OpenAI’s tech to build a competitor

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has stirred up controversy by secretly using OpenAI's technology to develop its own artificial intelligence model, Project Seed. This approach conflicts with OpenAI's terms, which forbid using their technology to create competing AI models. Initially, ByteDance heavily relied on OpenAI's tools for both developing and evaluating Project Seed. However, as they received approval to launch the chatbot platform Doubao in China, which includes Project Seed, they reportedly reduced their reliance on OpenAI's resources.

Despite this shift, there are indications that ByteDance might still be using OpenAI's technology in ways that breach their agreement. As a result, OpenAI has temporarily suspended ByteDance's access for further investigation.
