🧠 OpenAI is officially working on new AI model GPT-5 and AGI

Support through paypal for my development in my passion ∞ OpenAI is an American artificial intelligence research laboratory consisting of the non-profit OpenAI Incorporated and its for-profit subsidiary corporation OpenAI Limited Partnership. OpenAI conducts AI research with the declared intention of promoting and developing a friendly AI.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, recently revealed in an interview that the company is developing GPT-5. This new model would represent another step forward on the path to achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

  • The details of GPT-5's features remain unknown, but according to Altman's statement at last week's DevDay, what they'll unveil in the coming year will make current generative AI look quaint.

  • The leap to AGI is huge, and OpenAI is looking for a bigger financial runway from Microsoft to get there.

  • With great power comes great responsibility, and the path to AGI is fraught with ethical dilemmas and safety challenges.

Reflecting on this, it's pretty wild to think about where we are. If you'd told me a year ago that we'd be witnessing the kind of leaps in generative AI that we are seeing today, I might have chuckled and thought you were a few years ahead of yourself. Yet, here we are, watching Sam Altman and OpenAI push the envelope, redefining the pace of technological progress right before our eyes. It's a bit surreal and definitely a moment to take stock of how rapidly we're moving towards a future that was once the stuff of science fiction.

eBook: How to minimize third-party risk with vendor management

A robust vendor management program isn’t just required by compliance frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001. It’s also a critical part of a holistic trust management strategy.

Implementing a vendor management program, however, has become more complex and challenging with the proliferation of SaaS tools and shadow IT. And many overstretched security teams are being asked to do more with less.

To stay compliant and secure — and deepen trust with customers and partners — security teams need a way to proactively manage vendor risk.

This guide from Vanta, the leading trust management platform, brings together perspectives from the frontlines of vendor security management. Get insights and best practices from security and compliance leaders.

🤖 Apple to bring generative AI to iPhone 16 and iOS 18

In a tech landscape where generative AI is rapidly becoming the new frontier, Apple is not sitting on the sidelines. As we look towards the next wave of operating systems, the Cupertino titan is reportedly planning major updates for iOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18, which will bring a host of innovative features to iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs alike. This anticipation is fueled by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who hints at a leap in functionality and user experience.

  • Central to these updates is an enhanced Siri, expected to be more integrated and advanced, potentially transforming the virtual assistant experience.

  • Apple is investing heavily in AI research, to the tune of $1 billion annually, aiming to make significant strides in generative AI capabilities across its software suite.

  • With a relatively quiet year for iPhone hardware on the horizon, the pressure is on for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to deliver a 'revolutionary' user experience, as Apple races to catch up with Google and OpenAI.

Apple's plan is pretty straightforward: the next big thing might not be their gadgets, but the software they're running. If Gurman's predictions hold true, we might soon see some of the most sophisticated and intuitive AI enhancements to date, cementing Apple's role not just as a hardware pioneer, but as one of the main players in the AI space.

🏦️ Google in talks to invest ‘hundreds of millions’ into AI startup CharacterAI

Google is ready to make a strategic investment in Character.AI, an AI chatbot startup known for engaging the youth market, particularly those aged 18 to 24 who make up about 60% of its traffic. The investment, reported to be in the hundreds of millions, would strengthen an already fruitful relationship, as Character.AI utilizes Google's cloud services and TPUs for model training.

Founders Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas have steered Character.AI towards a unique market niche. The platform offers users the chance to interact with virtual celebrities, characters and even create personal chatbots. While free, it also provides a subscription model for eager users who prefer immediate access. The company's success is evident in its 100 million monthly visits since launch and ongoing talks suggest a valuation of over $5 billion.

My take: it feels like the tech titans have finally had their coffee and are wide awake to the AI revolution. Google's move to invest in Character.AI is just the latest in a series of strategic chess moves by big players looking to claim their stake in the AI landscape. With whispers of Apple stepping into the mix, it's becoming a full house with Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and X Twitter all rolling up their sleeves for a piece of the pie. It's an exciting, if not a bit daunting, time to be watching this unfold. Each company is bringing its own flavor to the game, and it's anyone's guess who'll serve up the winning hand.
