UPDATE

🚀 Midjourney V6 is here and its a huge leap forward

Following the release of DALL-E 3 by the AI powerhouse OpenAI, which represented a significant leap forward in understanding prompts, a response from Midjourney was highly anticipated. And indeed, they have risen to the occasion with the launch of Midjourney Version 6.

This version stands out for two main reasons: it brings a level of photorealism that surpasses previous models, and it effectively addresses the long-standing challenge of incorporating clear, legible text within images.

The Midjourney team has managed to create a model that produces images with an impressive degree of realism, setting a new standard for AI-generated imagery.

V6 is currently in the alpha stage and might not be accessible to everyone. You can try to add ‘-- v 6’ after a prompt and see if it works.

I've had the opportunity to access this new version of Midjourney. After spending a couple of hours playing around with it, I can say that the level of detail it offers is unlike anything I've seen before. The text integration within images, while impressive, isn't flawless yet, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

Regarding prompt comprehension, despite Midjourney's claims, I haven't observed a significant leap forward. Here, DALL-E 3 still holds an edge. However, it's worth noting that V6 is still in its Alpha stage, so we can expect considerable enhancements before the final version is released.

UPDATE

👨‍⚖️ AI cannot be named as patent ‘inventor’, UK supreme court rules

In a significant legal decision, the UK's highest court has declared that artificial intelligence systems can't be legally acknowledged as inventors for patents. This ruling came from a case involving Dr. Stephen Thaler, who wanted to name his AI, DABUS, as the inventor of two patents. Thaler argued that DABUS, which he created, independently came up with a new type of food and drink container and a light beacon. However, the UK Intellectual Property Office, followed by higher courts, rejected this idea, saying that an inventor must be a human being. The Supreme Court agreed, confirming that under the current law, only people can be inventors. This decision highlights an important legal boundary for AI, emphasizing that, for now, only humans can claim the rights to new inventions.
