🧠 GPT-6 Sol and Luna arrive. Here’s where to use them.

OpenAI’s September 22 release adds two more ways to use GPT-6. Sol and Luna aim to bring stronger everyday work and coding capabilities to faster, more affordable models.

The detail to check before hunting through a model picker: they’re available in Work and Codex, but aren’t yet in Chat.

• Paid access: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users get both models in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

• Free and Go: Luna is available in the desktop app.

• For builders: API pricing per million input/output tokens is $2/$10 for Sol and $0.10/$0.50 for Luna. Those are API charges, not subscription prices.

Why it matters: A more affordable model gives you room to revise a draft, check a spreadsheet, or iterate on an app. Try the same small task with your usual model and a new one, then compare what needs correcting. OpenAI still positions Astra as its strongest option for demanding work.

✍️ Claude Opus 5.5 gives you more room to keep working

Anthropic also launched a model on September 22: Claude Opus 5.5. Alongside improvements to complex work, the company says its writing is clearer and easier to follow.

For subscribers, the most immediate change may be how much work fits into a session:

• Higher five-hour limits on Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans.

• A usage reset you can save and use when you choose.

• Lower API rates: $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, 20% below Opus 5. Anthropic’s larger workload-savings claim also includes efficiency and caching.

Opus 5.5 is available now; Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are still due in the coming weeks.

Why it matters: Extra capacity helps when a document needs several rounds of revision. A useful first test: give it a messy draft, name the reader, and ask it to fix the structure while preserving every factual claim.

💻 Googlebook preorders are open. The Gemini-focused laptops start at $899, with Android phone integration. U.S. shelves get them October 4; Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia follow October 5.

🛠️ Grok 4.7 arrives in Cursor and Grok Build. The September 21 release targets coding and knowledge work. It’s also available through the API; test it on a task you can check before changing your regular workflow.

🎨 Qwen-Image-2.1 adds native transparency. Released September 20, it can generate and edit transparent images and use up to ten references. Its downloadable weights use a research license—check the terms before choosing it for a project.

🕰️ Exa Snapshot lets agents search an earlier web. Launched last week, the research preview can limit results to a chosen date. It gives builders a way to test past predictions without accidentally feeding an agent answers published later.
