ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

🧠 Is this the future of AI? Microsoft unveils its new ‘Algorithm of Thoughts’

Microsoft has developed a new AI training technique, the "Algorithm of Thoughts" (AoT), designed to make large language models like ChatGPT more efficient and human-like in reasoning. This technique guides the language model through a more streamlined problem-solving path using "in-context learning," enabling the model to explore different solutions systematically, resulting in faster, less resource-intensive problem-solving.

  • AoT outperforms previous methods and rivals a recent multi-query approach employing extensive tree search.

  • Combines human intuitive cognition and algorithmic organized exploration to augment reasoning capabilities within large language models.

  • Represents a shift from supervised learning to integrating the search process itself, which researchers believe can enable models to solve complex real-world problems efficiently while reducing their carbon impact.

Why it matters: Microsoft's substantial investments in AI put it in a strong position to incorporate AoT into advanced systems like GPT-4. Although it is a challenging task, teaching language models to "think" in a more human way could be a pivotal moment in the development of Large Language Models (LLMs).

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 Gamma AI, a new way to give life to your ideas

Gamma is an impressive tool that leverages AI technology to generate working drafts of documents, presentations, and webpages from prompts.

• Streamlined process: with Gamma, you can create a working draft in seconds and restyle your entire work with just one click, eliminating the need for slide masters or template lock-ins.

• Enhanced engagement: The ability to embed a variety of elements, such as GIFs, videos, charts, and websites, helps capture and sustain the audience's attention.

• Simplified collaboration: built-in analytics, quick reactions, and straightforward comments make it easier to collaborate, gather feedback, and share content across different devices.

RESEARCH

🫠 82% of Americans have never used ChatGPT (and why it’s a good news)

A Pew Research Center survey conducted in July involving 5,057 panelists revealed that only 24% of respondents who were aware of ChatGPT have used it, which accounts for 18% of US adults overall.

  • Younger and more educated adults are more likely to use ChatGPT.

  • The main usage of ChatGPT is for entertainment (20%), followed by learning (19%) and work-related tasks (16%).

  • Only 19% of employed respondents who were aware of ChatGPT believed it would majorly impact their jobs.

Why it’s a good news: despite the increasing popularity of AI, the adoption rate of ChatGPT is still relatively low. It's clear that while the market seems flooded with AI tools and applications, mastering them is still a rare skill. Being proficient in using and understanding AI tools like ChatGPT can offer a competitive advantage in today's digital age. As AI continues to evolve and become more integrated into our daily lives, it will be interesting to see how these usage trends change over time.
