AI IMAGES

📷 AI tools produced 150 years worth of photographs in just one year

The world of art and visual creation has undergone a monumental transformation thanks to AI-generated artworks, highlighting a revolutionary era where technology is already reshaping our lives.

Leading text-to-image algorithms like Midjourney, DALL·E 2, and Stable Diffusion have become instrumental in realizing human creativity and precision through 150 billion images generated in just one year.
According to Everypixel's report, it took humans 150 years to reach just 10% of this mark, emphasizing the extraordinary power of machine learning.

While the rise in AI-created images has brought new artistic possibilities and fun experimentation, it has also posed a threat in the form of deep fakes, misinformation, and viral fake images. The unprecedented pace of development in generative artificial intelligence signals that this trend is only accelerating, leaving a profound impact on how we create, consume, and perceive visual content.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 Recast: turn your want-to-read articles into rich audio summaries.

The AI-powered app that converts online articles, blogs, and essays into concise and easy-to-absorb audio explainers you can listen to on the go.

How it works:

  • Submit articles you want to be converted to recasts

  • Browse recasts that other users have submitted

  • Listen to concise and engaging audio summaries of any topic

Recast solves several problems for those who are high on curiosity and low on time, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content out there.

RESEARCH

🧠 AI can now steal your passwords with 95% accuracy by listening to you type

In a groundbreaking study at Cornell University, researchers have harnessed AI to interpret your typing and, alarmingly, deduce passwords with remarkable accuracy. Using an AI model trained on audio patterns of typing, they discerned the unique acoustics of each keystroke. When tested with a phone's microphone near a MacBook Pro, the AI pinpointed the exact keys with a 95% accuracy rate.

When the AI was tested over Zoom and Skype calls, showcasing a robust 93% and 91.7% accuracy respectively. It's not the loudness of your typing but the distinct waveform, intensity, and timing of each key press that betrays you.

What heightens the concern is the simplicity of this attack. A strategically placed smartphone near one's keyboard is all a potential hacker needs.

The best way to prevent such sophisticated threats is to use biometric authentication methods, like Touch ID or Face ID, or a password manager whenever possible.

SOCIAL MEDIA

🦾 The AI-based social media app that encourages to ‘BeFake’ to reduce stress and social pressure

Alias Technologies has unveiled BeFake AI, a novel social media application that diverges from traditional platforms. This tool is designed to generate AI-aided, imaginative visuals for users. The release seems to be a reaction to the declining popularity of BeReal, an app that encouraged daily genuine snapshots.

  • Philosophy: Unlike BeReal's real-time snapshots, BeFake AI emphasizes themed and fantastical visuals, allowing users to blend reality with imagination.

  • Features: The app offers both solo and collaborative modes, complete with a daily interaction prompt. It also promotes cross-platform sharing capabilities.

  • CEO's Vision: Kristen Garcia Dumont views BeFake AI as a potential solution to the challenges of human connection on social media, aiming to reduce the associated stress and vulnerability.

While Alias Technologies' BeFake AI introduces a fresh perspective on social media expression by interweaving AI and fantasy, its long-term influence and user reception in the crowded social media space remain to be seen.
